SightRead.org is open for sight reading "business"

Welcome to SightRead.org! After months of development, testing, and countless rhythm exercises, I'm thrilled to announce that SightRead.org is officially open for business - the business of helping musicians (such as myself) improve our sight reading skills.

What is SightRead.org? It's a free, browser-based tool for practicing sight reading. You can generate random rhythmic patterns, set the tempo, turn on the metronome, and start reading.

There are tons of options to customize your reading. Here's a sample of what you can do:

  • 5 difficulty levels - from quarter notes to complex syncopations with ties
  • Custom exercises - create your own patterns with exactly the rhythms you want to practice. So this is your own definitions of "level". The 5 built-in ones are just a start.
  • Multiple time signatures - simple 4/4, 3/4, 2/4 and compound 6/8, 9/8, and 12/8
  • Solmization syllables - optional "1 e and a" counting displayed under the notes
  • Works offline - you can install it as a PWA (progressive web app) and practice anywhere
  • Dark mode - easy on the eyes for late-night practice sessions, based on your computer settings

The tool is completely free. No ads, no tracking, no signup, etc. Just sight reading practice.

The rhythms sight reading is just the beginning. Future plans include melodic sight reading, dictation, and other fun. Stay tuned!

Happy 👀 reading!
